News from Tullycarnet

Tullycarnet Primary School is located within our parish area and caters for children in the age range 4 - 11 years. The Rector is Chairman of the Board of Governors and visits the school regularly to conduct assembly (with an act of worship), meet with children and staff and, occasionally, to teach Religious Education.

Full Turnout for the Lollipop Man

A special assembly was held at Tullycarnet Primary School in honour of Mr Leslie Mills, the school crossing patrol man, who has retired. Leslie has been seeing children safely across the busy Kings Road for the past eleven years, and during that time he has become a legend. Very popular with the children, Leslie carried out his duties with the greatest of dedication, his quiet, friendly personality winning instant friendship with pupils of all ages.

The Rector took part in the special assembly and Mrs Sandra Jackson, Principal, presented Leslie with a lovely water colour of the school, while his wife received a beautiful arrangement of flowers. Clearly moved by the event, Leslie pointed out that former principal Mr Gerry Brown had asked Leslie to do the job for two weeks - which quickly turned into eleven years !

Leslie had a nasty fall on a cold morning last January, whilst going on duty, in which he broke his wrist; after several months of recovery, he felt that the time had come to retire. Leslie will be missed by every-one at the school, but particularly by the children, many of whom paid a personal and public tribute to him at the assembly.
